BOPET Film
>
Ink that beads, flakes or rubs off is almost never an ink problem — it is a surface-energy problem. This 10 micron BOPET film is treated in-line to a surface tension of ≥50 mN/m, giving inks, adhesives and coatings a strong, consistent anchor without the guesswork of post-treatment.
Printers report ink crawling, poor dot formation, low rub and tape-test results, and delamination at coated or adhesive interfaces. The same ink that performs perfectly on one roll fails on the next, so production becomes erratic and reject rates rise. Offline treatment adds a process step and can vary across the web width.
Untreated polyester has a low surface energy of roughly 42 mN/m, which is below the surface tension of most solvent and water-based inks. When ink surface tension exceeds that of the substrate, the liquid cannot wet the surface and pulls back into droplets. Wetting is governed by the difference between the two: every mN/m of margin improves spreading, adhesion and resistance to rub. In-line treatment raises surface energy by introducing polar groups, but if the treatment level drifts or decays, adhesion falls off.
This film is corona treated in-line during manufacture to ≥50 mN/m, well above typical ink surface tension, giving a wide wetting margin. Treatment is monitored across the web width so that edges and centre are consistent, and the polar groups are stable enough to retain ≥38 mN/m after six months of normal storage. The base film keeps ≥180 MPa MD tensile and haze ≤3%, so print quality and mechanical performance are both preserved.
Used for printed flexible packaging, coating and adhesive lamination, labels and graphic films where ink and coating adhesion must survive converting and end use. Also suitable as a base for PVDC or acrylic coatings where wetting uniformity is critical.
Select the treated grade whenever the film will receive ink, adhesive or coating directly. Choose one-side treatment for laminated structures where only the print face matters, and two-side treatment for adhesive or coating on both faces. Confirm your ink surface tension and we will verify the wetting margin.
